MAGIC OIL 2K ERGO in the FC St.Pauli Millerntor – Stadium

With the purpose of a general refurbishment and offering access to even more visitors to the now dated cultural “gem” Millerntor construction and re-construction works already started in 2006.

New wood floor installation

The interior construction of the new lounge within the main tribune area included the installation of 2000sqm smoked oak industrial wood floor in narrow strips, laid edgewise by the contracted company Hollenbach Concept Böden GmbH.

Many reasons integral to surface upgrading were calling for the usage of oil-wax combination of Pallmann’s Magic Oil 2K Ergo. Firstly the oil ensures that varnish penetrating the joints is avoided and consequently the jointing appears even and as this parquet floor is exposed to extreme usage, regular re-oiling of this area is required to provide a longer durability.

Another important reason for the application of this two-component oil is the quick drying time of only 12hours. Before the parquet layers could start oiling the floor, a number of sanding runs were needed, during which the filling of the joints were processed following the intermediate sanding run.

As oiled parquet areas require an excellent surface quality, the fine-sanding was followed by an additional sanding using Pallmann sanding grid 100.

After the floor cleaning, using an industrial vacuum cleaner, the parquet layers began with the oiling process of the floor area. The Magic Oil 2K Ergo was then applied with the Pallmann-applicator, aiding a more comfortable working position.

After approximately 20min the residual oil was removed using a single disc rotary machine equiped with a Pallmann polishing pad (beige) and the floor received a finishing polish using a white Pallmann polishing pad. This process was repeated after a further 20min to achieve a homogeneous surface appearance.

Overhauling of the original floor

The parquet oil Magic Oil 2K Ergo from Pallmann was also used to overhaul the existing oak parquet of the foyer - a narrow strip-parquet laid edgewise. The work process on an area of 2500sqm was as above after the old floor seal was removed through several sanding runs. These works were undertaken in cooperation between the companies FDT K. Horeis GmbH Hamburg and Fußbodendesign Geßler. Both companies are members of the “Network Floor”, a Germany wide association of professional Trade companies in the floor cover, parquet and tile/ natural stone trades.

The cooperation of many years within the “Network Floor” and the long established trusting relationship between these companies offered the ideal conditions for this kind of project, working together on a renovation scheme.

To provide the optimum of protection to the new floor, the parquet was treated with Magic Oil Care and water, mixed in the ratio 1:1.
