Parkettleger Tour 2025: Revitalising Wurzen’s Historic City Administration Building

Wurzen, the birthplace of the renowned poet, painter, and cabaret artist Joachim Ringelnatz, recently undertook refurbishment works to celebrate its rich cultural heritage. Via the PALLMANN Parkettleger Tour 2025, a dedicated team of wood flooring experts from across the world renovated approximately 180 square metres of wood flooring across two halls within the city administration building between 2nd and 6th June 2025. UK participants joined global PALLMANN colleagues and customers, led by Scott Hendrie, the UZIN UTZ Technical Manager (South) and Adam Bateup and Eloise from Sussex Floor Restoration, Mike and Gemma from Cornwall Floorcare Restoration.

The renovation featured stunning patterned flooring that highlights Wurzen’s identity. In the larger hall, a striking frieze showcases the city's coat of arms and incorporates 20 silhouettes of significant local buildings and churches, developed in collaboration with the Wurzen Museum Society. This artistic touch enhances the space's aesthetic appeal, celebrating the community’s historical significance.

In the smaller room, affectionately named the Ringelnatz Hall, the team laid parquet flooring designed to reflect a carpet pattern originally conceptualised by Ringelnatz’s father, a pattern designer for various textiles. This unique flooring design includes intricate inlays featuring figures created by Ringelnetz himself, alongside selected texts from the poet’s works. The project utilised approximately eight parquet panels, comprising around 100 individual pieces, showcasing the craftsmanship and attention to detail that define this renovation.

Around 25 wood fitters, including two apprentices, participated in this collaborative effort. This partnership exemplifies a commitment to preserving and revitalising Wurzen’s historical significance while modernising its public spaces.

The PALLMANN Parkettleger Tour not only enhanced the aesthetic of the city’s administration building but also served as a tribute to Wurzen’s most famous son, Joachim Ringelnatz. By merging cultural heritage with contemporary design, this initiative reinforces the importance of community identity and artistic expression in the heart of Wurzen.

Testimonials:

Scott Hendrie said, “My time at Parkettlegger was without doubt the most satisfying and educational week I have spent in my working career. The knowledge and friends I acquired on this project are of the utmost value to me and I am very grateful to have been a part of something so incredible.

"The 2025 Parkettlegger Tour in Wurzen was a transformative experience for us at Cornwall Floorcare. From the warm welcome we received to the high-level skill training, every moment was invaluable. The hands-on learning, especially cutting and assembling a detailed floor panel, ignited a passion for installation that I never knew I had. The camaraderie and hospitality from our German hosts and fellow UK professionals made it unforgettable. Since returning, we've built lasting friendships and even collaborated with Regina, who has become part of our family. We can't wait to participate again next year!" — Mike Dennick, Owner of Cornwall Floorcare
